Sober Living Homes

What is a Sober Living Home?

Sober living homes are facilities that provide safe housing and living conditions for people moving on from rehabilitation programs. These homes serve as transitional and supported environments that allow people to maintain their independence while they continue to build upon the coping skills necessary for long-term recovery. The goal is to set up the house members for success in the journey from recovery programs back to mainstream society.

Tellurian is proud to offer sober living options at Chandra’s House of Hope for women and Jeremy’s Place for men. These housing solutions are available to Tellurian patients who’ve already completed a 30-day course of treatment. Residents of both homes choose to continue living in a structured and supported environment while also benefiting from additional accountability that comes with living with peers in recovery.

Importance of Sober Transition

Sober living homes are excellent ways for people to transition after treatment and continue recovery. This is a vital step as jumping right from treatment to old habits, friends, or surroundings too soon can cause triggers and may result in relapse.

Therefore, a second step of a sober living home can provide peer support and a safe space that encourages healthy habits and long-term recovery. These homes allow people to forge new and meaningful sober relationships, develop further accountability, life skills, peer support, and overall an easier transition.

Chandra’s House of Hope

Chandra’s House of Hope is a women-only living environment. This home is located near Madison’s East side and provides a safe, structured, and nurturing sober living environment for women in recovery.

The house is named after Chandra Judith Ann Hill who tragically lost her life to a heroin addiction and a co-occurring mental health disorder. Her father, Dennis Hill, started a movement in memory of his daughter called Journey for Chandra that is focused on raising awareness and addressing the ravages of addiction and mental health disorders. In late 2017, Tellurian and Mr. Hill's movement joined forces to provide sober transitional living for women like Chandra.

Jeremy’s House

Jeremy’s house is a sober living home for men who struggle with addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders. Modeled after Tellurian’s first sober living home, Jeremy’s Place provides a safe, structured, and nurturing environment for men transitioning out of residential treatment. This vision is supported by a comprehensive business plan, capital campaign, staffing model, oversight, and programming structure.

The house is named in memory of Jeremy Andrew Richard Likwarz, who courageously battled mental illness for most of his life. With his love of sports came many injuries, which led to pain medication prescriptions and, ultimately, addiction. After his passing, Jeremy's mother, Patti Likwarz, started a movement in her son’s memory called Speak Up for Jeremy. Patti has worked tirelessly to help families who have lost loved ones, as well as those currently struggling with addiction and behavioral health concerns, share their stories, raise awareness, affect change, and end substance use and mental health stigma.
